To build the multilingual school community that we promise, we have a strong language department that evaluates all students’ language needs and helps teachers tailor their lessons accordingly. The language team is headed up by Dr. Christine Jacob and comprises of qualified native speaking teachers and language teaching assistants, all of whom speak a multitude of languages!

At SISD, we run two bilingual streams: English-French and English-German. More details on how these programmes are taught is found on our bilingual page
Within our “English with foreign languages” stream, students study 5 lessons of French or German per week with our specialised foreign languages teachers. For the Italian speakers, these 5 lessons are instead taught as “Italian as a mother tongue” by our Italian teachers.
Arabic is taught in all three streams for both native (Arabic A) and non-native speakers (Arabic B) as of KG2. In KG2, students are taught 3 lessons per week. In the Primary grades (1 to 5), students get 6 lessons of Arabic per week. In the Middle School, students are initially taught 5 lessons a week in Grade 6 and 4 thereafter.

Language clubs and/or courses in French, German, Italian and Arabic are offered during our after-school activity programme. SISD is also planning to expand our language portfolio for the after-school activities in the coming year.
