DR ABDULKAREEM AL OLAMA
CEO AL JALILA FOUNDATION
Dr Abdulkareem Sultan Al Olama is the Chief Executive Officer of Al Jalila Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation established by royal decree. Al Jalila Foundation aims to promote the UAE as a centre of excellence in the field of medical education and research and to position Dubai at the forefront of medical innovation.
Prior to this position, Dr Al Olama was the Executive Director of the Centre for Healthcare Planning and Quality (CPQ), the independent regulatory body of Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), where he was responsible for setting and upholding healthcare standards within DHCC.
A graduate of United Arab Emirates University with a Bachelor’s degree in General Medicine and a Master’s degree in Healthcare Management from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dr Al Olama’s career arose as a Business Development Manager at Dubai Healthcare City. During his tenure, he gained industry-wide recognition for developing key strategies and initiatives to position DHCC as the world’s first integrated healthcare free zone.
In 2007, Dr Al Olama was appointed Executive Manager of Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research (DHFMR). His responsibilities lay in driving the institution’s goal to revive scientific discovery in the Middle East. The Foundation aims to support a new generation of scientists and healthcare professionals in conducting and guiding potentially innovative medical research.
In 2008, as Director of Community Relations at DHCC, Dr Al Olama was responsible in building a strategic relationship with healthcare organizations within and outside DHCC. During this time, he also led the Corporate Social Responsibility strategy for DHCC and in 2009, he took on the role of Executive Director at the Centre for Healthcare Planning and Quality.
A member of the National Healthcare Research Ethics Committee at the Ministry of Health and a member of the Research and Academic Council at Dubai Healthcare City, Dr Al Olama ensures his commitment to his industry as well as the future of medical research.
He is a graduate from the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Program for Leadership Development “Young Leaders” and Dubai Holding Future Leaders Programme “Leadon” for which he received the award for the best project presented at Leadon.
Previously, he was an active member and a Teaching Assistant in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the UAE University.
