Franco Vigliotti

Franco Vigliotti obtained his MSc and PhD in condensed matter and laser physics in Lausanne. Simultaneously, he was an independent consultant for the Swiss cement industry, in the field of quality control, data analysis and management. In 2001, he was a chemical-physics research associate and postdoctoral fellow of the Swiss National Research Foundation for three years at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena (USA), under the direction of Nobel Laureate Ahmed Zewail.

In 2004, he returned to Switzerland to join the President’s Office at EPFL (the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne), where his activities have included strategic developments of EPFL, several large-scale academic reorganizations and partnerships, and new initiatives at the regional, national and international level. Since 2009, he has been seconded to the UAE as the Dean and Director of a Graduate research center of EPFL, in Ras Al Khaimah (UAE). Franco Vigliotti is also an alumnus of the postgraduate IMD program Managing Technology Enterprise.
Franco Vigliotti and his Wife Emily were both educated in Switzerland. Parents of 5, they experienced the elementary and secondary education system in the United States and Switzerland, prior to coming to the Region. In the UAE for the past 6 years, the family has had experience with the British curriculum and the IB program at RAK Academy, one of the oldest international schools of the UAE. As Swiss parents who know their children will eventually need to integrate in schools or universities elsewhere in the world, Franco and Emily understand the need and requirements to prepare for adequate transfers, or for the application to international institutions with the highest admission standards.

Their children in age are enrolled in IB programs, and their oldest, who graduated from the IB in Ras Al Khaimah, is working towards the master degree in a Swiss medical school. Whit their second graduating from the IB in 2015, two more in secondary, and one in KG, the family has developed a growing interest for successful education programs in the region, an interest and concern Franco shares with SISD, alongside his academic experience.
