Our participation in the Eco-Schools programme is growing this year and we will have our first Eco-Schools Committee in Secondary made up of dedicated students and teachers. The Secondary Eco-Schools Committee will work with the Primary Eco-Schools Committee to carry out an environmental review of SISD, develop an action plan based on their findings, and then carry out their action plan. The Eco-Schools themes we are targeting this year are, Energy, Water, Waste & Recycling, Global Citizenship, Litter
We are looking to add a few parents to join the Eco-Schools Committee, attend a monthly meeting, and provide expert knowledge to students based on our themes. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
if this is you! Recycling at SISD
We have partnered with TreeWise Pencils! Families can now drop off paper, magazines and newspaper in the bin located in front of the Primary building. TreeWise will recycle our paper into pencils and give us back a percentage of our recycling in the form of pencils! At SISD we practice the 5 R's, REFUSE, REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE, ROT, in that order. We encourage you to REFUSE plastic bottles by providing a reusable water bottle for yourself and child to fill up at our various filtered water fountains. We understand that even after our best attempts at refusing, reducing and reusing plastic bottles, we still end up with plastic bottles at SISD. We have partnered with Simply Bottles to ensure that every PET plastic bottle is recycled at SISD. Simply Bottles recycles PET bottles into polyester thread that is then made into t-shirts. Learning Gardens
Garden season has begun! We are looking for parent volunteers to help with the garden maintenance. If this is you, please come to the parent cafe on Nov 5th at 8:30 am to find out more. Student Action!
Last year the students voted and decided to go "Glitter Free for the Sea." Students learned that glitter is a micro-plastic that ends up polluting our waterways when we wash it off our hands. We have started collecting all the glitter in the school and will layer it into a fish aquarium to act as a visual art piece and reminder of plastic in the ocean and our need to take action. Stay tuned as we become the first school in the UAE to go Glitter Free for the Sea!
