The community of SISD shares its heartfelt condolences to the Abdulsalam family, on the recent passing of Mr Jamal Abdulsalam, Board Governor for SISD. We are very appreciative for the work, support and commitment that Mr Abdulsalam gave to the school during his tenure as CEO of DHCC and Board Director for the school.
We are very excited about our forthcoming Grade 5 Musical Performance, which will take place in the Auditorium on Thursday, February 2nd at 8.30 a.m. Parents are welcome.

Swiss Learning – the benefits of Swiss education and Swiss Summer camps
We are delighted to be welcoming the group of Swiss Learning schools to SISD on Tuesday 7th February, to enjoy an evening of Swiss excellence and education. The schools present will include Institut Le Rosey, College Beau Soleil, Aiglon College, TASIS, Collège du Léman, Leysin American School, Les Roches Hospitality, Glion Institute of Higher Education.
Massimo Baggi, Ambassador of Switzerland to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, will be present at the evening, to celebrate the 50th anniversary year of diplomatic relations between the UAE and Switzerland.
All parents and students of SISD are welcome to join us for the evening.

Boarding weekend activity! Our boarding students have been making the most of the Dubai winter, and enjoyed a lovely afternoon of lessons and practice at the ELS Club Golf Course recently. A fantastic opportunity to learn or enhance their golfing skills.

As part of our ongoing commitment to mental health and well-being, SISD offers daily practices that our community can participate in, keeping our commitment to mental health and wellbeing at the centre of our priorities.
Effective learning is based on student well-being. As a result, parents and staff have been able to attend a number of recent pastoral workshops:
- Dr Sarah Bougary who talked about Balanced Parenting and Wellbeing.
- Experts from Monarch Health Centre to talk about parenting styles with teenagers.
- Current parent, Mrs Hanan Ezzeldin, who talked about invisible signs that your child needs support.

Our new SISD Honours Programme has now officially launched, and the first session was held this week to outline the programme to the selected Grade 10 and 11 participants. The programme will provide enrichment opportunities, enhanced learning options and a selection of guest speakers, all of which will provide academic stretch for our more talented students.
Student, Phillip Karschies: “The Honours Programme will provide a great way for students to practice our leadership and debating skills, which we can apply in our future".
Student, Faye Curran: “I am very excited to join the Honours programme! I can't wait to be even more challenged in my academics by learning about new topics like Ethics, and I am looking forward to the leadership strand of the programme"
The Honours programme will be extended to other Secondary grades as the academic year progresses.

Our students in Early Years have been enjoying a host of 'free flow' activities, as part of our emphasis on child-led play. Free flow allows children to find their own strengths, and offers them a level of freedom and choice in their learning. This type of independent learning also develops student stability, spacial awareness, co-ordination and agility, and enhances creativity and imaginative thinking.

And that’s a wrap for our 2023 Sports Day, concluding with our Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 students today. A great buzz of activity around the field, lots of clapping, cheering and excitement! Students participated in agility courses, long jump, shotput, springs, relays, and the finale of the 100m race. Well done to all our students!

A fantastic result for our Secondary swim team today in the Dubai Schools Gala at @hamdansc. The team achieved a host of medals, and finished in 2nd place across all Dubai schools! Well done, team IBEX. 👏 @speedoswimsquads_uae
Our Grade 5 students have created a "Book in a Box", based on the story "Holes" by Louis Sacher. This initiative is part of a competition for the forthcoming Emirates Literature Festival, with new author talks, workshops, special events and more. In 'Book in a Box,' students illustrate a journey of visual storytelling and our students have displayed their ingenuity and imagination beautifully.
The events take place at the Intercontinental in Festival City and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library from 1-6 February 2023. All SISD families are invited to attend.

Sustainable Food Truck Designs! As part of their IB design project, Grade 10 students have designed, and are creating, innovative food truck prototypes using sustainable products to cater to people with different tastes or dietary requirements. We cannot wait to see what their completed prototypes will look like!

Our young engineers! The students in Grade 4 STEAM class had an exciting lesson designing and building thrilling rides for a theme park this week. Their recent field trip to MOTIONGATE was their inspiration, and the lesson was a opportunity for them to experience and understand the full design process. Next week, the students will start creating their own design in preparation for this year’s STEAM Fair.
