Pre-loved Book Fair: Thank you to all the families who supported our Pre-loved book sale this week - we are very pleased to confirm that we have raised AED 5700, which will be donated to the Turkey and Syria earthquake appeal. A huge thank you to all our Secondary students who assisted with the running of the sale.
Re-enrolment for 2023/24: Please be reminded that the final date for re-enrolment, and to reserve your child`s place for the next academic year is the 28th March. Please complete re-enrolment by following the instructions in the email, and we look forward to welcoming you back next year!

Grade 9 Community Project Exhibition: Our Grade 9 students have been showcasing their work this week, for the IB Grade 9 Community Project Exhibition. The project allows students to work together, and complete a community project that examines ways they can make a positive difference. It also provides students with an opportunity to develop softer skills, including generating creative new insights and developing deeper understandings through in-depth investigation, demonstrating skills, attitudes and knowledge required to complete a project over an extended period of time, and to
communicate effectively in a variety of situations. Well done, Grade 9 - some very insightful and enterprising projects!

To promote reading, the UAE is celebrating March 2023 as Reading Month. At SISD`s library, we have been observing this week as Book Week. Students have been enthusiastically participating in activities such as "Get Caught Reading", "Mystery Date with a Book", and also volunteered at the pre-loved Book Fair this week. The students have wrapped their favourite books and attached a cover sheet with clues about the book, without revealing its title. Other students are excitedly choosing an untitled mystery book as their reading material for this week.

In the spirit of Ramadan, we would like to show our support by preparing gift boxes for our SISD community helpers. We would therefore like to encourage our students to prepare boxes of essential items for our support staff who work tirelessly to ensure the safety and health of our students, parents, and staff. Donations will be accepted from April 10 to April 13.

A climate change interactive workshop for parents this week. Thank you to Climate Fresk Ambassador and current parent, Corona Fontana-Arnaldi, who hosted a very interactive and fun session to raise awaress of climate change. During the workshop, parents and staff from the SISD Sustainability Committee worked in groups to look at the cause and effect of human actions on the climate and how they are all interlinked. The second part of the workshop involved discussions around the changes we can make to reduce the impacts of climate change.

A very exhilarating and exciting weekend for our Secondary students at the World Scholar`s Cup last week! Our students participated in a variety of sessions, including debating, quizzes, interactive discussions, written assessments, and the Scholar`s Challenge, competing against 1500 other students from across the UAE. We are thrilled to announce that our students achieved a total of 17 medals across the team, and all three teams have qualified for the Global Rounds to be held in Doha in June! Congratulations to Sema, Sofia, Rushda, Eric, Tess, Maya, Melissa and Amaliya. The students were congratulated by Miss Ruth this week.

IB DP Art Exhibition: A launch event for our IB Art exhibition took place this week, with over 100 pieces of student artwork on display. The Grade 12 students curated their own exhibitions and were very proud to exhibit their work for the first time to family and friends. The Exhibition is now open on the 2nd floor of the parent café - all visitors are welcome. Photos are available in the link in our bio.

Francophonie Day! Our Early Years and Primary students celebrated the UNESCO Francophonie Day yesterday, a day that recognises the cultural and linguistic diversity that makes up the world. Students participated in a range of French-based activities throughout the day, and enjoyed some very traditional French food!
Celebrating La Francophonie is recognizing the potential of language and culture to unite people, to create spaces of solidarity and mutual understanding, and to reflect together on our common future.

Our Grade 6 French students pitched against Grade 7, and Grade 8 were battling against Grade 9 in the very interactive, `fingers on the buzzer` French quiz! IB Art Exhibition Launch event: Reminder for all Grade 11 and 12 students and parents. Our IB Art exhibition commences tomorrow, with the launch event taking place at 5pm on the top floor of the parent cafe. Do come and join us - over 100 pieces of artwork will be on display.

Another first for SISD! We are very excited to announce that we will be launching a new BTEC Hospitality and Business Management course, as part of the IB Career-Related Programme, in September 2023. This course, the first of its kind in the UAE, will be delivered in conjunction with The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management and the Jumeirah Group, one of the world`s leading hotel groups. Students can undertake a two year theory and practical course, and enjoy work experience in some of the top UAE hotels. The qualification will provide the perfect foundation for students to continue studying at the leading hospitality universities in the UAE and Switzerland.
