IB
Career-related
Programme

DSC03876-min

The Career-related Programme is a framework of international education that incorporates the values of the IB into a unique programme addressing the needs of students engaged in career-related education. The mix of career-related skills combined with the knowledge and skills obtained from studying Diploma Programme courses allows students access to higher education institutions such as universities and colleges. The programme can also lead to apprenticeships or employment.

Group 503

Students have to choose 3 subjects, either at SL or HL*.

  • Language and Literature
  • Language Acquisition (or a second Language & Literature subject)
  • Individuals and societies
  • Science
  • Mathematics
  • Arts

*We highly recommend that students take one language and mathematics for university application. The courses chosen should be relevant to the students’ career-related studies.

In addition to the 3 DP subjects, students study the components of the CP Core.

The IBCP appeals to students who wish to pursue career-related studies,

combining the IB’s rigorous approach to education with practical hands-on experience within the working world

Lisa Bardin, IBCP Co-ordinator

CP Core:

  • Personal & Professional skills: Emphasis is on the development of skills needed to successfully navigate higher education, the workplace and society.
  • Language Development: it provides students with a basis for further study, work and leisure through the use of an additional language.
  • Service Learning: students see the practical application of knowledge and skills towards meeting an identified community need
  • Reflective Project (in English, French or Spanish): it is an in-depth body of work produced over an extended period and submitted in year 2 of the Career-related Programme.
  • BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Business or Hospitality: a practical and industry-focused course, giving students the specialist knowledge and the workplace skills that employers around the world are looking for.

The CP enables students to follow their chosen education and career pathways in life, combine academic subjects with their personal and professional interests and skills, engage in learning that makes a positive difference to their community and think critically and creatively. The programme leads to further/higher education, apprenticeships or employment. Find out more about the CP.

I chose the IBCP because it is more vocationally-based

and I know the career I want to pursue. This programme will help to support me in my future path. The advantage of the IBCP is that it allows me to develop professionally and academically at the same time.

Elizaveta (Grade 11 Student)
