I grew up in the English town of Worcester. I studied BA Politics and Arabic at the University of Exeter, which included a year abroad in Egypt where I taught English as a foreign language part-time alongside my Arabic studies. Following completion of my degree, I worked for a year as an English language teaching assistant in a vocational college in Rostock, Germany. Having developed an enthusiasm for teaching, I then trained as a secondary English teacher back in the UK, working for two years in a secondary school in Blackpool and then for one year in Birmingham. I believe education is most effective when students are empowered to lead their own learning. This is a value that I see exemplified by the learning at SISD. Outside the classroom I like keeping fit, reading and socialising.
