I have always wanted to work with children ,after qualifying as a coach I taught children to swim when I was only 14 years old,I was living in a small prep school with my mother for eight years so I gained valuable experience of growing up in a boarding school
My first matron role was at Lockers Park a boys prep school in Hemel Hempstead where I joined a small team of three and learnt how to support younger children experience living away from home for the first time. As the youngest matron it was me that joined the schools orienteering expedition trips. later I trekked to Everest base camp (carrying my own pack) and walked four days up to Machu Picchu in Peru
I progressed my career at Christ Hospital School in Horsham a leading charitable school established in 1552 by King Edward Vl .The school was unique in giving out the most bursaries in the UK , often for disadvantaged children , it was a challenging role I enjoyed managing a large boarding house with teenage girls
I became the youngest Matron appointed to the UKs top School , Harrow in London
I cared for 70 boys from 13 – 18 years old in The Park boarding house, famous Harrow boys include Lord Byron, Winston Churchill, and Benedict Cumberbach
I worked there for seven years, it was a wonderful experience, I made life longs friends of the boys, parents and staff
During the school summer holidays throughout my career I have gained experience of working with International students working for Thames Valley Summer Schools and then for the Harrow International Scheme where I was promoted to oversee and manage the house parents
Sadly my wing man Hugo ,boarding house scrounger and great comfort to home sick children is not able to accompany me to SISD because he`s a Boston terrier, so I understand how it feels to leave family and come to school , I intend to make it a happy caring environment for all the children in my care.
