As we approach the end of Earth Month, it`s the perfect opportunity to reflect on our ongoing commitment to solar energy, through the development of our solar-powered car park.
Year 1 results:
☀️1310 mega-watt hours of clean energy produced
☀️915 metric tons of carbon emissions avoided
☀️ 2200 students aware of the importance of clean and solar energy
☀️ An abundance of happy parents - a shaded, cool car parking area!

What an exciting time we`ve had for Literacy Week.
From an author visit, to a book character dress up day, book sales and evening `Tuck Me In’ story time, where teachers read bedtime stories to our students online, it has certainly been an action-packed Literacy Week.
Throughout the week, parents hosted bilingual "Book Tastings" where students had the opportunity to discover a variety of books in different languages, and our teachers also hosted workshops for parents on supporting literacy at home. The week ended with a fun "Booknic" where students read and had a picnic.
We hope our students, teachers, and parents came out of this week with a new-found passion for reading.

Friday morning was our Quran Awards Assembly, during which the winners of the recent Quran competition were announced. Congratulations to our Early Years, Primary and Secondary winners and to all the students who participated, demonstrating exceptional skill and mastery in their recital of the Quran.

Our Grade 5 students enjoyed another glimpse into life at Secondary School this week, as part of their ongoing Step-Up programme. The students engaged in a variety of specialist classes, including French, German, I&S, Drama, and Design. Meeting the Secondary teaching team, exploring classrooms, and experiencing a different approach to learning made for an enriching day. More Step-Up activities to follow!

This week, we had the privilege of hosting distinguished visitors from the Nord Anglia Education group. We welcomed Board Members from the global Nord Anglia Education group, and the management team from the IMG Sports Academy in Florida.
From educators eager to witness our bilingual program in action to sporting professionals keen to explore our world-class facilities, and boarding directors intrigued by our unique boarding school experience in the UAE, we were very proud to showcase SISD!

Our "booknic" event today - a beautiful combination of relaxation, enjoyment, and literacy! It was a lovely sight to see Early Years and Primary students snuggled up with their cuddly toys, engrossed in stories, and enjoying snacks together outside.

Yesterday, our Primary and Early Years students were thrilled as they had the chance to dress up as characters from their favourite books. This special event, held as part of SISD Literacy Week, provided a wonderful opportunity for both students and teachers to bring beloved stories to life, and we just loved the costume creativity!

Grade 5 student PYP exhibition launch! It was an opportunity for our Grade 5 students to brainstorm ideas for their PYP exhibition topics, to delve into their passions and interests and hear from past Grade 5 students about their experiences with the exhibition. We can`t wait to see the final results, focused around this year`s theme of "Peace".

Yesterday, the SISD Green Team Ambassadors had the opportunity to visit the Sustainability Pavilion at Expo City, to participate in workshops tailored to their age groups.
🐝 KG2 students delved into the important work that bees do for our planet, and the importance of protecting them for the environment.
🤖Primary students explored the role of robotics in future mobility through hands-on programming tasks.
🌍 Secondary students engaged in live-action case studies to understand the role of Net-Zero energy consultants, gaining hands-on experience in systems operations.

This week, our Grade 6 Arabic A students embarked on an enlightening excursion to the Al Shindagha Museum. Their aim was to delve into the rich history of shipbuilding in the Emirates, aligning with our upcoming study unit featuring a narrative centered around a protagonist involved in shipbuilding. Upon their return, the students brought back a wealth of knowledge that promises to enrich their comprehension of the narrative.

Today we recognized the real SISD heroes; the facilities, security, cleaning, health and safety and catering teams who have worked tirelessly this week to ensure our school is ready to welcome everyone back tomorrow. The team enjoyed a “thank you” meal together, to reward them for their amazing efforts. After a week of unprecedented weather in the UAE, these are most certainly the SISD unsung heroes - our facilities team who have been tirelessly working to ensure our school is ready for our return on Monday. A huge thank you to our entire support team for their efforts this week 🙏
