Head of Inclusion

Swiss International Scientific School Dubai is an inclusive school that recognises that each student is unique and special. SISD welcomes all students with a wide variety of learning preferences, which includes students of determination (students with special needs and disabilities). All students receive the personalised support and care that they need to grow, develop and progress as an individual in a nurturing learning environment.

SISD staff are committed to treat each student as a unique individual. Staff value getting to know each student well and build quality relationships with them. We encourage active involvement of inclusion students in the decision-making process regarding the delivery of the provision and support that they may need. Diversity is celebrated, valued and viewed as a strength throughout the school and is utilised to enhance learning through careful adjustments of teaching strategies and accommodations to meet the needs of diverse students.

Our varied curriculum ensures opportunities for all our students to meet shared goals on their learning journey in a common learning environment with similar-age peers. SISD’s learning culture celebrates inclusivity to enhance student progress and promotes achievement. Our aim is to ensure that each student reaches their full potential according to their personalised targets. SISD takes a holistic approach to student support and care. We value behavioural, social and emotional development. We believe in empowering students to be as independent as possible and confident life-long learners. We encourage parents and external agencies collaboration, contributions and equal partnership throughout the education process of our students.

Inclusion Vision Statement

The Mission of SISD is to provide an inspiring, inclusive and challenging learning environment while celebrating academic excellence. We welcome students of determination and give them access to appropriate provision, resources and curricular options. “At its heart, inclusive education is a provision that is committed to educating all students, including students identified as experiencing special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in a common learning environment. In such settings, all students have access to quality instruction, intervention and support, so that they experience success in learning. Inclusive education providers create a culture of collaboration, in a landscape of mutual respect and equality for all. All students are given opportunities to be successful learners, to form positive social relationships with peers, and to become fully participating members of the learning community.” (Dubai Inclusive Education Policy Framework, DIEP 2017) In line with this principle, SISD encourages and supports all students, including those identified as having additional needs and/or talented and gifted to become successful, global minded, enthusiastic lifelong learners who will confidently take advantage of future opportunities and help make a difference. We have supported the, ‘My community… a city for everyone’ initiative, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, which has driven the development of Dubai Disability Strategy and the Dubai Inclusive Education Policy Framework.

Three top objectives identified within the school’s inclusive education improvement plan

  1. Implement a training plan for all support staff: teaching assistants, learning support assistants, language assistants and individual learning support assistants
  2. Embed differentiation strategies into classes
  3. Embed the identification process and implementation of the graduated response
